About Mt Maunganui
The Mount itself is known as "MAUAO" - which means - "caught by the light of the dawn". MAUNGANUI is the name given by the Tainui (tribe) to "large mountain", not particularly to MAUAO, but because Mauao looked like a similar mountain in Hawaiiki where Maori are believed to have come from. Maori consider MAUAO to be sacred.

Nestled at the foot of Mauao salt water is warmed to a body soothing 39°C in the large soaking pool, 3 private pools and 2 outdoor spa pools. There is a cooler 32°C active pool and a children's pool with fountains, waterfall and a slide.
